Elsanta

Fruit quality

Elsanta has a good taste and a strong strawberry aroma. The fruits are firm and conical in shape and have a shiny, red colour. The inside of the fruit is red, but the core remains white. The crown is firmly attached to the fruit. Elsanta has a strong fruit skin so that it is not sensitive to pressure points and is therefore very suitable for fresh consumption.

Flowering and picking period

Elsanta is characterized by its large and wide fruits with long, sturdy fruit clusters. Elsanta produces fairly large flowers. The stamens of the first flowers are often less good. The other flowers often have reasonable to well-developed stamens. Elsanta is a mid-ripening strawberry. In the open ground, Elsanta is usually one or two days earlier than Sonata. In cooled cultivation, the harvest is more concentrated than Sonata. As a result, the fruits quickly become smaller.

Productivity

The yield of Elsanta is high to very high. The fruits are easy to pick because the fruits are large and the plants have long, sturdy fruit clusters. Characteristics are the small sepals. The percentage of deformed fruits is higher than with Sonata, especially with an early spring crop. The share of class I is also higher at Sonata than at Elsanta.

Disease resistance

Elsanta is susceptible for the following diseases: Verticillium dahliae, Phytophthora cactorum, Phytophthora fragariae, Botrytis cinerea, colletotrichum acutatum and Sphaerotheca macularis

Cultivation experiences

Elsanta can be used for all kinds of crops, both indoors and outdoors, and from early to fairly late. The variety is also very useful for the vegetable garden. Elsanta is grown in large parts of Europe. Unlike Sonata, Elsanta, however, is very sensitive to winter frost. Due to its sensitivity to wilt disease, Elsanta is less suitable for cultivation on soils on which potatoes and strawberries have been grown.
